Six newly rehabilitated roads were on Tuesday opened in Eti-Osa local government area of Lagos State by the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu with a charge to Lagosians to pay their taxes.
The new roads were Oyinkan Abayomi drive, Macpherson avenue, Femi Okunnu road, Ilabere, Ilu and Inupa all in Ikoyi.
At the opening of the roads, governor Sanwo-Olu appealed to Lagosians to pay their taxes and Land Use Charge as well to enable the government to provide more infrastructure.
He assured the people that their taxes will not be spent on frivolities but used to build more roads that would enhance economic growth of the state and well- being of the residents.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said his administration is determined to transform the state and ensure its productivity.
He said the new roads will ease traffic congestion within the Ikoyi axis as well as address persistent challenges of flooding the residents were experiencing.
The governor further said the new roads were part of the Ikoyi Urban Regeneration Initiative launched by his administration in July 2020 designed to tackle persistent flooding, streamline traffic flow, and upgrade vital road networks.
Sanwo-Olu appealed to Lagosians to refrain from actions that could undermine durability of roads in the state by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste into drainage systems or illegal parking on roadways.
The Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola explained that the new six rehabilitated network of roads has a combined length of 5.90 km which will complement the previously commissioned Phase 1, which included Milverton, MacDonald, Lateef Jakande Avenue, Thompson Avenue, Reeve and Onilegbale roads.
