The people of Ogombo Community in Eti-Osa Local Government of Lagos State, on Tuesday heaved a sigh of relief as Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu and the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, COWLSO, in partnership with Lagos State Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools, SCRPS, opened the first secondary school in the community.
Prior to Tuesday’s official opening of the school, the community had no secondary school as students had to trek for over an hour to neighbouring communities before having access to secondary education.
The plight of the students led to the intervention of COWLSO in embarking on Ogombo Senior High School Project.
The school, a three floor structure has 15 ultra-modern classrooms, 30 toilets, libraries, laboratories, ICT Center, offices for teaching and management staff as well as a well-equipped sick bay.
It also has staircases and a ramp for the ease of movement and safety of the physically challenged.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the COWLSO project committee headed by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, for building a world class educational structure.
He said the project was a collaboration between the govt, COWLSO, and SCRPS.
He described the community as conducive for such project, adding the state will soon begin construction of a Junior Secondary School project in the community.
Sanwo-Olu further expressed his administration’s commitment to build more of such educational infrastructure as one of the pillars of his THEMES agenda.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Ogombo, the First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, advised the people in the community to take ownership of the facility.
” It is a veritable access to the educational development of the children in this community. So, I urge you to use and protect it with jealousy,” she said.
