Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday evening, urged Muslim faithful to pray for the stability of the country in the wake of security challenges facing the nation.
Sanwo-Olu spoke through his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who represented him at the 2021 Pre-Ramandan Tafsir Lecture and Prayer held at the State House Mosque complex, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to the governor, Muslim faithful should use the Ramadan period to pray for the nation so it does not ” scatter.’
“You should do more prayers because we are having so much problems in Nigeria. Pray Nigeria do not scatter. Covid-19 is real, and it has taken lots of people” Sanwo-Olu urged.
In his address, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi, said the ‘Ramadan fast is a command from the Almighty Allah as recorded in the Holy Quran Chapter 2, Verse 189.’
“I call on our people and in particular our Muslim brethrens to avail ourselves with the training and serenity that Ramadan affords to cleanse our hearts enrich our souls with virtues and re-dedicate ourselves to the good of humanity and the development and progress of our dear State, Lagos and our great country, Nigeria.
I want to enjoin all Muslim faithful to commit our dear State and the country at large into the hands of the Almighty God as we pray throughout this Holy month of Ibaadah,” he said.
He added: “Let us remember to cater for the less privileged around us as commanded by the Holy Quran even as we abstain from all forms of wrongdoing even beyond the fasting period; a call to fellow-feeling, harmonious co-existence devoid of prejudice, hatred, acrimony and bigotry and exhibit attributes of charity and good neighbourliness.”
