The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sango-Ota Command, has advised motorists in the state to ensure that their tyres are in good condition during the rainy season, to reduce mishaps to the barest minimum.
Mr Adekunle Oguntoyinbo, the Unit commander in Sango-Ota, gave the advice during a rally to mark the United Nations Safety Week in Ota, Ogun, on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the UN Road Safety Week which commenced on May 6, would end in May 12.
The 2019 celebration coincided with the West Africa Road Safety Organisation (WARSO) Day which held on May 8.
NAN reports that the command used the occasion to sensitise motorists at Motor parks, Churches and Mosques, on the importance of safety on the highways.

According to Oguntoyinbo, the UN Road Safety Week is an annual event aimed at improving safety on roads globally.
“The command implores all motorists to drive cautiously, shun the use of fairly used tyres and cell phones, as we mark the 2019 UN global week on Road Safety.’’
“We also enjoin motorists to cooperate with FRSC personnel on duty, avoid overloading, route violations and hopping between lanes on the highway,’’ he said.
Oguntoyinbo, who urged motorists to be extra cautious, especially at construction sites, said that the command was taking new measures to enhance the safety of road users in the rainy season.
“They should ensure that their wipers are functioning, use good tyres, as well as good lighting for their vehicles,’’ he said.
The unit commander, however, solicited for cooperation, patience, commitment and obedience to all traffic rules by motorists during the rainy season. (NAN)
