Protesters storm National Assembly over Kaduna bombing

...Demand Defence Minister's resignation

Protesters led by the North West Zone and the Arewa Youth Movement (NYCN), on Wednesday, stormed the National Assembly in Abuja to protest the bombing and killing of over 80 people by the Nigerian military.

The protesters, who blocked the entrance of the Assembly complex for over two hours, demanded justice for the victims of the drone bombing as well as the resignation of the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru.

Nasir Ishaku, NYCN North West Zone leader, addressed the media and condemned the killing of innocent Nigerians and demanded a probe into the incident.

He said: “We are here today to demand justice for the victims of this senseless attack,” Ishaku said. “The killing of innocent Nigerians, especially in the Northern part of the country, cannot be tolerated any more,” adding that Bandaru was incompetent and incapable of handling the security situation in the country.

“The security situation in Nigeria has been deteriorating ever since Mr. Badaru was appointed Minister of Defence. We are calling on him to either wake up to his responsibilities or resign,” Ishaku noted.

It would be recalled that the military hadd accepted responsibility for the Sunday drone attack, which reportedly occurred during a Maulud celebration in Tudun Biri village, leaving scores dead and several others injured.
