Catholic Pontiff, His Holiness, Pope Francis, has expressed his solidarity and closeness with Catholics in Nigeria after bandits attacked St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday, killing about 50 innocent worshipers.
Gunmen had fired shots at worshipers inside and outside St. Francis Xavier Church in Owo.
As of June 6, no group had up until this point claimed liability regarding the attack.

As per statement issued by Matteo Bruni, the director of the Vatican press office, on Sunday, the pope said the believers were “painfully affected”.
“The pope has learned of the attack on the church in Ondo, Nigeria and the deaths of dozens of worshipers, many children, during the celebration of Pentecost.
“While the details are being clarified, Pope Francis prays for the victims and the country, painfully affected at a time of celebration, and entrusts them both to the Lord so that he may send his spirit to console them,” the statement read.
In the mean time, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. IGP Usman Baba, on Monday condemned the merciless murder of worshipers at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owaluwa in Owo.
An assertion Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the attack was done at around 11.30 am, on Sunday.
Mr. Adejobi uncovered that preliminary investigations show that bombs were taken to the scene.
