The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of members of the Anti-Cultism team that had shot dead Kolade Johnson in Onipetesi area of Mangoro, Lagos.
The Anti-Cultism team had allegedly stormed the area about 5pm on March 31, 2019 in a bid to arrest a suspect. They had shot sporadically in the air.
A stray bullet from the multiple gunshot hit and killed Johnson who at the time was watching a football match at a viewing centre.
The Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu who confirmed the arrest of the suspected policemen in a press statement said, “The account of eye witnesses helped in identifying the team which fled the scene immediately after the incident.
“ Members of the team suspected to be involved in the shooting have since been arrested and are currently in police custody undergoing interrogation.
“ They will be subjected to internal disciplinary procedures, and may be prosecuted in conventional Court if implicated by ongoing investigation.”
Meanwhile, CP Muazu has called for calm, assuring that justice would prevail in the case. He condoled with the family, friends and well wishers of the late Johnson.
Similarly in the statement that was issued on Monday, the CP has promised to initiate far reaching reforms to help in repositioning the Anti Cultism Squad for effective service delivery.
This, he said, was important particularly in areas of respect for human rights and proficiency in the use of firearms.
