Police smash child trafficking syndicate in Imo, 3 kids rescued

 

Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, of the Imo State Police Command on September 30, 2024, smashed a child trafficking syndicate in the state.

The operation, which resulted in the arrest of four suspected members of the syndicate, also led to the rescue of three abducted children, who were abducted from Ndinwegbu Umuoma, Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, on July 4, 2024,

The suspects were identified as Charity Kalu, 24, from Okono, Ohafia LGA, Abia State; Ifeoma Anyanwu, 41, from Oloko Ikwuano LGA, Abia State; Chibuzor Lucky, 42, from Umuezeala Umuerim, Ubakala, Umuahia, Abia State; and Isidore Ozioma, 56, from Umuhu Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, Imo State.

They were accused of luring the children, who were playing outside into their tricycle (Keke Marwa), and took them to a location in Aba, Abia State where they sold the children for N1 million.

However, the children have been safely recovered security operatives.

Consequently, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has charged parents and guardians to be extra careful with their children, adding residents should cooperate with one another as such is important in the fight against crime.
