A team of Policemen from the Maroko Police Division in Lagos have arrested two members of a notorious robbery gang terrorising residents of Lekki and Ikoyi.
The suspects, Adebayo Ayomide, and Isaac David met their waterloo shortly after robbing two young women in the area at gun point, on March 9.
While on crime prevention patrol, the police team led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Isah Abdulmajid ran into the victims of the robbery along Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
Upon questioning, the victims explained to the team that they had just been dispossessed of their phones and other valuables at gunpoint.
According to the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Elkana Bala, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said the victims pointed at the direction through which the bandits escaped on a motorcycle and the police team gave them a hot chase.
“ The team tracked down the suspects and upon searching them, their operational single-barrelled gun, a cutlass and the stolen phones were found on them. The items were recovered and the criminals taken into custody.
“ In their confessional statements, the suspects owned up to belonging to a syndicate terrorising Lekki and its environs. “
Commending the police team for a swift response to the crime and the eventual arrest of the perpetrators, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, has directed that the case be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command for further investigation.
The CP further assured residents of the state of the command’s commitment to securing lives and property in every nook and cranny of the state.
He also warned criminally-minded individuals to either change their ways or face the full weight of the law
