Police bust rival cults in Lagos

Seventeen members of ‘Aiye’ and ‘Eiye’ confraternities were arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command, during a fight for supremacy in Ikorodu and Ijora Badia areas of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Bala Elkana, on Sunday, said in Ladega area of Ikorodu members of the rival cults engaged in a bloody fight on Sunday during which one was severely injured.

According to Elkana police operatives from Ikorodu division, Shagamu Road, Ipakodo, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were drafted to the scene where they arrested 12 suspects with one locally-made pistol.

The severely injured person, Lateef Ganiyu, 24, is currently receiving treatment at General hospital Ikorodu.

Also, five suspects were arrested during a fight between the two opposing cult groups in which they used machetes and other dangerous weapons inflicted injuries on one another.

The PPRO said: “Police operatives from Ijora Badia Division and Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants from the Command Headquarters, Ikeja were mobilised to the area.

“The suspects are: Olaniyi Abiodun, 21, of No. 28, Exeter St, Amukoko; Emola Kamal, 20, of No. 28, Epe St, Amukoko; Muritala Gbadeyanka, 18, of Badagry area.
