Police arrest two robbery suspects in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one Adaugo Darlington and Steve Green for alleged involvement in armed robbery.

It was alleged that Adaugo pretended to be pregnant passenger to attract sympathy, attacked his victim with knives and machetes and push him down while still in motion.

The suspects were said to be armed robbery syndicate which specialized in dispossessing unsuspecting drivers of their tricycles popularly known as keke NAPEP.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko,  luck ran out on the suspects after their operation, at the weekend, along the Rumunduru Eneka  in Obio / Akpor  Local Government Area of the state.

Iringe-Koko said, “When police operatives of Eneka Division, while on routine patrol, got to the scene where their last victim, one Lasisi Akeem was dispossessed of his tricycle.

“The victim, who had machete cuts, was able to describe his tricycle and the suspects. The gallant officers  immediately chased and apprehended two of the suspects, and recovered the tricycle.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment while efforts are on to nab the  two others who escaped.  Investigation has commenced”.

In a related development, operatives of the Rivers State Command C4i Team attached to Etche Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence, raided a criminal hideout at Okehi Etche, and arrested two male suspects

The suspects, Njoku Chimanya, 19, and Chijioke Umesurum, 20, were  are  suspected to be members of a secret cult.

The police revealed that a stainless English pistol with breech no. 323898, and some items suspected to be hard drugs were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Eboka Friday, while reiterating the commitment of his Command  to combating crimes and criminality to a negligible level, assured that the suspects would be charged to court.
