Police arrest man with 17 bags of marijuana

A man, identified as Daniel Elimuya, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, for being in possession of 17 bags of substances suspected to be marijuana.

Information has it that the suspect, a resident of No. 9, General Hospital Street, Iya Naira area of Agbara, is notorious for smuggling the illicit substance to Lagos and Ogun.

His arrest followed an information received by policemen at the Ibafo Police Division that a car from Delta State heading to Lagos was carrying illicit drugs.

On the strength of the information, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Abiodun Ayinde, quickly led his anti-robbery team to Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where they laid ambush for the said car.

Speaking on the arrest of the suspect, Ogun Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said, “At 6:30pm, on July 28, a police team that had gathered information about a vehicle trying to smuggle illicit drugs, sighted the Ford car with registration number GGE 782 EX and stopped it.

“On searching the vehicle, 17 sacks of Indian hemp was discovered there in. The driver, Daniel Elimuya was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, he confessed been a long time Indian hemp distributor and that the one he was arrested with was meant to be delivered to ‘Kofo’ in Lagos Island.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, who was briefed on the arrest ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect and exhibits to State Criminal investigation and Intelligence Department(SCIID), for further investigation.
