Police arrest four notorious motorcycle robbers

Four notorious robbers who specialise in snatching motorcycles around the Agbara area of Ogun State have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.

The suspects, Abraham Lucky, Emeka Ekenle, Oluwaseun Adekoya and Monday Nzkube, were alleged to operate using mortal pestles to inflict head injuries on their victims before snatching their bikes.

The arrest of the four-man gang followed a report made at Agbara Divisional Headquarters on February 20, 2019, by one Suuru Nofiyonbin, alleging that his brand new bike was snatched by suspected robbers.

According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi,  who gave more details on the arrest of the suspects,  “Nofiyonbin had reported that at about 5:30am of the date, while he was riding his unregistered Bajaj motorcycle,  he picked a man who had pretended to be a passenger from OPIC Estate Agbara heading to Igere.

“On their way going,  the said passenger brought out a mortal pestle from his bag and hit him in the head which inflicted serious head injury on him before dispossessing him of his motorbike.

“On the strength of the report,  the DPO Agbara Division,  CSP Adegbite Omotayo quickly led his Anti Robbery team to the scene, combed the entire area in collaboration with the Vigilante service of Ogun State and succeeded in apprehending the suspect who was later identified as Lucky. The motorcycle and the pestle was subsequently recovered from him.

“During interrogation,  he confessed been responsible for series of motorcycles snatching in the area,  he also named Ekenle and Adekoya as his gang members as well as Nzkube as their receiver.

“The detectives quickly accompanied him to the residence of his mentioned accomplices and got them arrested.”

Oyeyemi said the suspects had all confessed to the commission of the crime,  admitting to have snatched more than 10 motorcycles in Agbara and its environs.

He also said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, who had been briefed on the arrest, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation.

He said, “The CP further reiterate the commitment of the Command not to rest on its oars until the State is rid of crime and criminality.”
