Police arrest 5 traffic robbers in Lagos

Three suspected traffic robbers have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspects, Daniel Ani, Akinbode Muiz  and Oluwasegun Emmanuel, were arrested at Toyota bus stop, under Daleko bridge, at about 10:00p.m, on April 18.

They were caught while robbing motorists and unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables in traffic.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Elkana Bala, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects were arrested with two knives and a cutlass they use in terrorising their victims.

Bala said, “Patrol team on surveillance along Oshodi /Apapa express way sighted some armed bandits at Toyota bus stop, under Daleko bridge, taking advantage of the traffic congestion, robbing motorists and other unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables such as laptops, handsets and money.

“The arrested suspects confessed to be responsible for traffic robbery along Mushin and environ. They confessed to have stolen numerous phones and bags from different victims as well as a bag containing the sum of N25,000 belonging to one  Oyebanji Ibukun, of No 14, waheed Ologunju street, Oke Afa in Isolo.”

The PPRO said investigation is ongoing, as suspects would soon be charged to court.

In a related development, surveillance patrol team attached to Orile Police Station have arrested two suspected traffic robbers, operating at Alafia bustop along Lagos Badagry Express-Way.

The two suspects, Olalekan Taoreed of No.20, Sunday street, Ijora Badia and Adeniyi Okunloye, of No. 25, Alaba Road, Suru  Alaba, were arrested with a cutlass.

Also commenting on the arrest, Bala said, “ One Samsung Duos handset stolen from a victim was recovered from the suspects.

“The suspects confessed to be responsible for traffic robberies along Orile and environs. Investigation Is ongoing and suspects will be charged to court.”

The commissioner of police, CP Zubairu Muazu  has however warned that tough times awaits traffic robbers with the deployment of surveillance teams across state.

While calling on Lagosians to be vigilant at all times, Muazu said, the Command will continue to make Lagos State difficult for criminal elements to operate.
