Police arrest 4 suspects with marijuana concealed in deep freezer

Four suspects were, on Saturday, arrested at Iperin black spots in Agbara area of Ogun State with a  large quantity of Indian hemp concealed in a deep freezer. 

The suspects who were arrested during a raid, headed by Divisional Police Officer, Agbara Police Division, SP Adegbite  Omotayo, confessed to be major suppliers of the prohibited substance in the area.

The suspects, whose identities were given as Opeyemi Wahab, 22, Kabirat Ahmed, 21, Yusuf Rasaki, 20, and Saheed Mustapha, 32, said they always disguised as cold soft drink sellers to avoid any suspicion.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said, “ The raid which led to the arrest of the suspects was part of ‘Operation Puff Adder’, which was launched by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police.

“It is a total clampdown on hoodlums perpetrating violent crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and the likes.

“The suspects were caught with the deep freezer which they pretended to be using for sales of soft drinks, but when it was opened, behold, it was loaded with weeds suspected to be marijuana hence they were promptly apprehended.

“On interrogation, they confessed been the major distributor of the substance in Agbara area and that they always use the freezer to distribute it around, so as to deceive the security agents and prevent them from arrest.”

Speaking on the arrest of the suspects, the  commissioner of police ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation.

He also warned that sales of illicit drugs which aids the commission of crime, will not be tolerated in the state any longer.
