David Nketim, 22, a tech worker was shot dead by alleged armed robbers in the Jibowu area of Lagos on Saturday.

Eyewitness reports said the police were called while David was still alive. When the police arrived, rather than take him to the hospital, the police were allegedly taking pictures of David and asking why he was carrying a laptop.

It was not clear which police unit or station the police officers came from as there were no official comments from the police authority on the matter.

Reports say when David was taken to the hospital even the hospital where they took him to was negligent and lackadaisical which eventually led to his death.

Nigerians took to social media to berate the sloppy attitude of both the police and the hospital.

According to them, David would still be alive if the police, especially, had been alert to its responsibilities.

@Majesty on Twitter said David would still be alive he was not in Nigeria.

“On the David issue that happened at Jibowu.

If he wasn’t in Nigeria, chances are that he will still be alive. The system failed him.

Maybe we should all start learning first aid skills for gunshot and stabs as it is. Cos might come in handy and save a life in this our Nigeria,” he said.

UK-based Nigerian doctor, Olufunmilayo said the death of David further demoralises people because of lack of empathy on the part of institutions meant to protect lives.

“The more I think about this boy, the more this country demoralises me extremely.

We used our hands to kill our own Jack Dorsey or Elon Musk.

How do you just shoot and kill someone so brilliant, so promising, so gifted? Like how? How does it make any sense?

 RIP David,” he said.

In 2018, David took part in an IBM global competition featuring over 17,000. He emerged the overall best in the competition.
