Perform or be sacked, Umahi tells SSG, CoS, others

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Wednesday, swore-in Dr. Kenneth Ugbala as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Barr. Cletus Ofoke as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Also sworn-in was the re-appointed Chief of Staff Government House, Mr. Emmanuel Offor Okorie and Mr. Clement Nweke as the Principal Secretary.

Speaking after administering the oath of office on the Principal Officers at the Executive Council Chambers Government House Abakaliki, Umahi reiterated that the appointment of the officials were based on merit.

He charged the appointees to strive and perform in their duties and responsibilities or be sacked.

Umahi said that the Secretary to Government (SSG) would double as the Commissioner for Peace, Border and Security.

The governor equally swore in four Special Assistants and one Senior Special Assistants namely Mr. Joseph Ekumankama ( Abuja Liason Office), Mr. Nchekwube ( Abakaliki Capital Territory), Mr. Benedict Nwovo (Special Assistant to Governor Security /Utility North Zone), Mr. Chika Nwangele (S/A South Zone) among others.

“The SSG would recommend to the Executive Council the list of Technical Assistants/Senior Technical Assistants (STA’s) to be appointed with emphasis on their capacity and capability.

“SSG would recommend 13 nominees across the local governments, we have abolished overheads for all Technical Assistants and Senior Technical Assistants.

“If you want this appointment to make gains, better not step into the office,anybody coming in is coming to work, we have to focus on the masses, public office is not for personal gains.”

Governor Umahi expressed regret that immediate past members of the Executive Councils stabbed him on the back insisting he would not allow the present executive members to repeat the same.

He directed the Principal Secretary to institute Training Prgrammes for new appointees and to acquaint them on the principles, policies and programmers of the administration.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, the Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice Barrister Cletus Ofoke, assured that they would not betray the confidence reposed in them.

He said that the new appointees would strive to uphold the policies and programmes of the administration.
