Wife of Anambra State Governor and founder of the charity organisation, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) has expressed outrage over stripping and parading naked of a woman alleged to have committed adultery by some persons in a video circulating on social media platforms.
She has also vowed to take up the matter to ensure those behind the disgraceful act are brought to book.
Although there had been conflicting reports as to what might have happened, the victim, a childless woman was stripped right beside her husband’s corpse and later marched naked through their Agileri community, even as the husband’s body was yet to be deposited in the morgue.

While one report claimed that the husband died as a result of the woman’s adulterous ways, which is a fetish in their community, another report claimed the husband collapsed and died while having sex with his wife (the victim)
However, Mrs. Obiano, in a statement released by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Emeka Ozumba, condemned the treatment meted out to the woman by the community.
The statement read in part: “My attention was drawn to a video clip containing graphic images of a woman subjected to ignominious treatment of the worst kind. She was not only publicly condemned over alleged adultery, but paraded stark naked on the streets.
“I must say that the conduct of the persons who took laws into their hands to debase the hapless woman was barbaric and disgusting.

“How could anyone have contrived to subject a fellow human being to such debasing treatment in this 21st century?”, the first lady queried, adding that such a practice beats her imagination.
“I am particularly unhappy because it is a clear betrayal and an affront on the values of our society and a demarketing of the efforts we made in the last eight years to promote the dignity and respect for our women”, she said.
According to the statement, Mrs. Obiano said she has already called the attention of the relevant authorities to weigh in on the matter and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book, as it cannot be condoned in the society.
