Osun monarch suspended over alleged gang-rape

A traditional ruler in Osun State has been suspended from the throne over alleged gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl.

The monarch, the Aketewi of Iketewi, David Ogungbemi, was suspended by the Ijesa North Traditional Council in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State over the matter.

It was gathered that an Osun State Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Osogbo, had ordered that 62-year-old Ogungbemi, his son, Idowu Ogungbemi and Sarafa Olayiwola, be kept in prison for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl and adjourned the case to May 18, 2020.

The decision to suspend the monarch was taken at an emergency meeting by the council held, last Sunday.

A statement jointly signed by the president of the council, Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba Moses Agunsoye and the Secretary, Olomu of Ijaregbe, Oba Edward Adetimo on Monday noted that the suspension of Ogungbemi took effect from Sunday, directing the monarch to steer clear of all activities of Ijesa North Traditional Council and Obokun Chieftaincy Committee pending the decision of the court.
