The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the Certificate of Return to the governor-elect of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and the 23 members elect of the state’s House of Assembly.
The event took place at the JS Tarka Foundation, Makurdi, the state capital.
Presenting the certificates to the winners, INEC National Commissioner in charge of Anambra, Enugu and Benue states, Festus Okoye, urged the governor to deliver his campaign promises and also discharge his duties diligently and honestly to the electorate that gave him the mandate.
He added that the supplementary election was to give Nigerians the opportunity to exercise their constitutional duties as demanded by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He called on the members elect to support the government and give best legislations that can move the state forward in the next four years.
Responding, Governor Ortom commended President Muhammadu Buhari for not interfering in the process.
He said that the president has shown a true statesman he is and wished that God gave him long life to steer the affairs of this country Nigeria.
The governor also thank INEC for conducting a peaceful, fair and credible election in the state.
He particularly commended the state’s Resident Commissioner, Dr. Nantawe Yelwatda, who in his professional duty did not allow the process taking over by politicians
Governor Ortom used the occasion to call on the people of the state to enthrone peace so as to enable him deliver on his campaign promises that he gave during 2019 electioneering campaign.
