Oba Akiolu charges INEC Commissioner on honesty, staff welfare

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, on Tuesday charged the new Lagos Resident Commissioner for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ayobami Salami,  to be honest in his new posting and ensure the welfare of the staff is paramount.

 

 

 

 

Akiolu spoke at his Idunganran palace when the new resident commissioner visited him to seek his royal blessing on his new role in Lagos.

 

 

 

 

Salami was accompanied by the Lagos INEC management team and directors.

Akiolu told Salami that his role as resident commissioner demand honesty and urged him not to be afraid to say the truth, adding that ‘your salvation is in your hands.’

 

 

 

 

” You have started well but your salvation is in your hands. You have to be honest and work hard. Be loyal to your officers and take care of them. Always say the truth. Let your yes be yes and no be no”, Oba Akiolu said.

 

 

 

 

 

The monarch lamented the get rich quick syndrome among Nigerians adding that Nigerians must be up and doing if they are going to salvage the country.

He further told the new resident commissioner to work with the Lagos office of the National Orientation of Nigeria to appeal to Nigerians to be patient.

 

 

 

 

He urged Nigerians to be patient in the face of economic hardship and expressed confidence in the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to  lead the country right.

 

 

 

 

In his remark, Salami said he was in the palace to seek the support of Akiolu and receive his blessings.

 

 

 

 

He admitted that INEC needs the supporr of traditional rulers to engage, mobilise and disseminate its information to communities and expressed confidence in Akiolu’s readiness to work with the commission.
