NSCDC hits Boko Haram, kills over 50 terrorists

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have survived an an ambush laid by Boko Haram terrorists, successfully killing over 50 of them during the ensuing gun duel.

The incident happened at Farin- Kasa Area, Chukun LGA in Kaduna.

According to a statement by Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC spokesperson, a special monitoring squad, comprising 80 officers and men was deployed to survey and monitor the recently vandalised national grid installation in Shiroro area of Niger State.

The operatives, who were drawn from the Commandant General Special Intelligence Squad, CG SIS, were sent to assess the level of damage, conduct surveillance activities and possibly arrest and bring perpetrators to book.

However, they were attacked while crossing from the Shiroro axis after the surveillance and monitoring oversight of the installations.

“From the top of a hill located at Farin-Kasa, the group opened fire upon sighting the long convoy of the NSCDC monitoring team using different sophisticated weapons,” Afolabi said.

“The NSCDC operatives in the ambush, however, not overwhelmed by terrorists, repelled the attack and successfully neutralised over 50 of the terrorists in the crossfire.

‘’Efforts are currently underway to locate them in the bush. While a few others who sustained various degrees of injuries are currently undergoing medical treatment in a medical facility.”

Afolabi added that Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Commandant General, described the attack as callous, unfortunate and an attack too many on security operatives.

However, lauded the operatives for their courage and gallantry in deleting over 50 terrorists despite being attacked from the mountain top.

He added that attacks would not deter the Corps from carrying out its mandate to protecting Critical National Asset and Infrastructure, CNA.
