It is no longer news that Yoruba Nation Activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho, has been released from detention in Cotonou in neighbouring Benin Republic.

What is news, however, is that Igboho can neither return to Nigeria nor travel elsewhere despite his freedom from a prison facility in the francophone country.

It is learnt that Igboho was on Monday evening freed and  handed over to fellow Yoruba Nation leaders, Wale Adeniran and Banji Akintoye on the condition that he must remain in Cotonou only and can’t travel to any other place.

Akintoye’s spokesman, Maxwell Adeleye, in a statement described Igboho’s release as a triumph of truth over darkness in Yoruba land, adding, however: “The Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Ighoho, has been released by the Government of Republic of Benin.

“The activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba leader and leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Prof Banji Akintoye, and a French Language expert/Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Prof Wale Adeniran.

“He (Igboho) is remaining in Cotonou. He was freed on medical grounds as no case was preferred against him. Asides, he had been detained for more than six months, which is contrary to the law.”

Chief Yomi Aliyu, who is Igboho’s couunel,  a message to newsmen confirmed the condition attached to  Igboho release that he would not leave Cotonou for any reason.

“I am to inform you that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho Oosa, has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.”
