The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has called on security agencies to swiftly clear immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, and a nominee for a ministerial position, for confirmation.
The youth group cautioned that their patience should not be further tested by the delay in confirming el-Rufai’s appointment as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to a statement from the Forum’s President, Yerima Shettima, the youths and the Northern region of Nigeria feel a sense of humiliation due to the news that of the 48 names submitted to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu, el-Rufai is one of the only three nominees whose confirmations have been deferred.
Shettima stated, “We regret to observe that singling out Nasir el-Rufai for such disrespectful treatment forms part of a broader agenda pursued by certain questionable political interests to deprive the northern region and the younger generation of Nigerians of equitable representation in the forthcoming cabinet.”
He further expressed skepticism about the Senate’s claim that security checks were the reason for not confirming el-Rufai, as the nominee list had already undergone security scrutiny before being presented to the Senate.

Shettima maintained that el-Rufai, along with Hannatu Musawa, Bello Matawalle and Festus Keyamo, stand as a remarkable representation of the younger generation of Nigerians on the nominee list.
He argued that denying el-Rufai’s confirmation based on trivial reasons would not only provoke Kaduna State and the North but also the Nigerian youth.
In the light of this, the AYCF urges the prompt clearance and confirmation of Nasir El-Rufai’s ministerial appointment without unnecessary delay.
