Stakeholders from both Nigerian and the French film industries have commended Nollywood’s new blockbuster and directorial debut of Bolanle Austen-Peters ‘The Bling Lagosians.’
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they gave the commendation during the screening of the movie at the ongoing French-Nigerian Cinema Days holding from July 2-3 at the Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi,Lagos State.
The Bling Lagosians which hit cinemas on June 28, stars Nollywood big names such as Mona Lisa Chinda, Alex Ekubo, Jide Kosoko and Gbenga Titiloye.
Other casts are Elvina Ibru, Helen Paul, Toyin Abraham and former Big Brother Naija housemates, Bisola and Bambam, among others.

The plot of the movie depicts the affluent, flamboyant, audacious and the ‘show off’ nature of many Lagosians, and exposes how people go the extreme to keep up false appearances in society.
It tells the story of the Holloways, one of Lagos’ most prestigious families, that is presently living in their past glory without coming to terms with it.
Although they are not as wealthy as they once were, they still want to live that lifestyle they once lived.
They want to host ‘the talk of the town’ kind of party, wear the best designers and drive most exotic cars, even while are wallowing in debt.
NAN reports that ‘The Bling Lagosians’, which was one of the two movies screened at the event, was applauded by filmmakers and other industry stakeholders.
They described it as intriguing and one of the best of Nollywood movie so far released in the year.
Ijeoma Onah, Founder of Nigerian International Film Summit, said: “At a time like this when co production between Nigeria and France is being discussed, a movie like this with good story line is commendable.
“I congratulates Austen-Peters, and hope the movie gains both local and international acceptance.

Mr Yoann Talhouarne, Regional Audiovisual Attaché, Embassy of France in Nigeria, described the movie as “a masterpiece which tells the story of Lagos people in an interesting, funny and informative way.”
Mr Thomas Adedayo Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), said: “Besides its humour, ‘The Bling Lagosians’ re-echoes the resilience, tenacity and die-hard spirit of we Lagosians.”
The movie Director, Austen- Peters, told NAN on the sideline that the movie was a reflection of the day-to-day realities of life in Lagos.
“In doing the Bling Lagosians, I observed certain things in our society and I decided to tell the story, a relatable story, that people would see and recognise this is the real us.
“This story is like a mirror, so we can look at ourselves in a mirror, see the flaws and strengths, and learn lessons,” she added.(NAN)
