NIPOST seeks citizens’ collaboration to expand services

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is seeking for collaboration with the public to expand its services to remote areas of the country, the Abuja Zonal Manager, Mr Abubakar Usman, said.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that although the organisation was far spread across the country, there was no doubt there were areas that its services did not cover due to out-of-the-way locations.

He said “so, the request I want to make to members of the public is that NIPOST wants to be within the reach of every Nigerian; so, NIPOST will be coming to your communities.

“We are looking at collaborating with willing members of the public that want to donate land that we can use to bring the post to their doorsteps.

“If NIPOST can be in every nook and cranny of this country, it will go a long way to make the organisation to meet its target, and to cater for every citizen’s need.

“For instance, if you are from a village without postal facility, and you sense the need for the post in the community, you can provide a facility and we can take off from there.”

The zonal manager said that if the patronage of the post in that community was high, the facility could be upgraded to a full-fledged post office.

According to him, people who have shops in small localities can approach the organisation to be given a facility called `Post Shop’, where they can sell NIPOST products, in addition to their stock.

He noted that when the person fulfils the terms of agreement with the organisation, he could be paid commission
on sales he or she makes for every NIPOST product sold.

Usman said that as much as the post desired to be everywhere in the country, it was impossible to do so because of cost; “but with collaboration with the citizenry, it is possible.”

He, therefore, urged citizens to come forth with such properties and facilities, to enable the organisation to meet its target of being everywhere and also generate more revenue for government. (NAN)
