Nigeria French Language Village hosts leading European scholar of African Literature & Cultures

The Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), Badagry, Lagos State, played a week-long host to Prof. Dr. Susanne Gehrmann, professor of African literatures, cultures and film studies & Chair of African Studies, Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany.
Prof Gehrmann is a fellow of Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) and DAAD ( German Academic Exchange Service).
Since her arrival in the Nigeria French Language Village on Tuesday 26 September 2023, Susanne Gehrmann has been interacting with staff especially the academic staff. She attended the Faculty Academic Board meeting held Wednesday, 4 October, 2023 where she had discussions with colleagues mainly on their research interests.

Susanne, on the invitation of two indigenous professors, (Alawode and Adesola), attended and taught students in their classes of Communication Écrite et Communication Orale.
On Friday 6 October, 2023, Prof. Gehrmann appeared in the Village’s prestigious Causerie du vendredi where she gave a lecture on “Autobiographie et autofiction” with a special focus on Ken Bugul. The lecture was illustrated with some video clips on the Senegalese female writer who spent some years in Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin.
Susanne will visit Bénin: Cotonou and Porto-Novo briefly and will return to the Village to participate in the forthcoming UFTAN conference and be the special guest at the Nigeria French Language Village’s maiden Inaugural Lecture to be delivered by Professor O. A. Laditan of the Department of Literary & Cultural Studies.
“On behalf of all of us in NFLV, I welcome you all to our Village as from this weekend. I wish you all a safe journey to and fro Badagry. Rendezvous à Badagry,” wrote Professor Babatunde Ayeleru on behalf of the NFLV, Badagry.
