The Labour Party has faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the process of collating the result of the February 25 pPresidential and National Assembly elections, vowing to challenge the election results in court.
The party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, in a statement said a lot of Labour Party members were deliberately disenfranchised through several methods across the country, especially in the party’s strongholds.
He added that many of the party’s members were driven away from their polling units or had their ballot papers and boxes destroyed by thugs.
Ibrahim accused INEC of late arrival of its staff and election materials to known Labour Party strongholds.
Even by the time they arrived, he said, the supporters were already tired and had to leave the polling units because of fear.
“The delay by INEC to upload and announce results, especially where Labour Party is already known to have taken lead, is also worrisome and we feel it is deliberate to anger our party and our supporters,” he said.
The party scribe insisted that the LP would challenge the outcome of the final result in court.
