#NIGERIA DECIDES2023: Cross River Gov, Ayade floored, loses senatorial bid

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has lost his senatorial bid.

He was defeated by the incumbent Sen. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, who retained his seat as representative of the Cross River North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Sen. Jarigbe contested on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and polled 76,145 to defeat Ayade who scored 56, 595 votes.

The governor had dumped the PDP last year and pitched tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC) on which platform he contested and lost.

The Returning Officer, Dr. Emmanuel Emanghe, on Monday morning, declared Jarigbe winner of the exercise on behalf of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and thanked stakeholders and security agents for the peaceful conduct of the electoral exercise.
