#NIGERIA DECIDES2023: Atiku wins Buhari’s state, Katsina, Gombe

Despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s endorsement of Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the presidential election in Katsina State, the home state of the president.

The result was announced by Muazu Abubakar, the Katsina state returning officer.

Atiku polled 489,045 votes to defeat Tinubu who had 482, 283 while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 69,386 votes.

Similarly, the former Vice President won in Gombe State.

He polled 319,123 in the 11 local government areas (LGAs) of the state as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Tinubu polled 146,977, Obi 26,160 and Kwankwaso scored 10,520.

The Gombe State Collation Officer, Prof Maimuna Waziri, who announced the result around 1 am on Monday, said the PDP candidate had the highest number of votes in the North-East state.

The former Vice President won with over 160,000 votes ahead of his closest rivals – Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Bola Tinubu of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
