#NIGERIA DECIDES2023: Atiku takes Bayelsa

Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has defeated his two major opponents, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP ) in last Saturday’s Presidential elections in Bayelsa State.

Atiku had the highest votes from all the local government areas of the state as announced by Prof. Lilian Salami, the State Collation Officer for the Presidential elections.

Prof. Salami gave summary of the results collated from all the eight LGAs in the state Monday night at the State INEC headquarters, in Yenagoa.

She announced that the PDP had 68,818 votes followed by the Labour Party that had 49,975 votes with the APC coming third position with 42,572 votes.

The number of registered voters in Bayelsa State was 1,056, 862, while 177,368 voters were accredited for the elections. The total votes cast were 173, 111, while the rejected votes were 7,786.

Meanwhile, INEC has declared only one of the five House of Representatives candidates in the state.

Mrs. Marie Ebikake of the PDP won the Nembe/Brass Federal constituency House of Reps seat as she defeated incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli of the APC.

Prof. Donatus Enang Bassey, INEC’s Returning Officer for the federal constituency, who announced the result, on Monday, said the PDP candidate polled a total of 11,145 to defeat the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Sunny-Goli, who scored 6755 votes to come second.

Brass-Nembe Federal Constituency is the home constituency of Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and former Governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva.

The constituency has been the stronghold of APC in the state for years.

Results of senatorial and others constituencies were yet to be officially announced as at the time of this filling this report.
