Newly employed maid leads robber to employer’s house, cart away jewellery, cash

A maid who was newly employed has been declared wanted by the Kenya police for organising a robbery to be carried out in her employer’s house three weeks after she started working.

The robbery was captured in a CCTV video in her employer’s residence in the Ushirika Tower estate in Eastleigh, Nairobi, Kenya.

The employer was reported to have gone out with his children while his wife was away in India for medical treatment when the incident happened.

During the robbery, the suspect along with the robber also assaulted another domestic worker in the house, a 20-year old Hakimo Muhidin who is from Somalia and was helpless to stop the robbery.

According to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, the maid and her accomplice carted away jewellery, cash, and other belongings. He added that the employer reported the incident leading to an investigation, adding that the police are on the trail of the maid and the robber.

Explaining how the robber gained access to the house, the police said that the CCTV camera showed the robber using a hammer to access the apartment which is on the sixth floor through the help of the maid.

The police added that Muhidin was whipped, and inflicted with serious injuries which include a broken tooth, hand, head, and legs, by the robber and his assistant.

Police says detectives are investigating the incident and assured the people that the suspects would soon be caught.
