NAF jet on aerial surveillance of Ebonyi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has allayed the fears of residents over the aerial surveillance of the state by aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as the Presidential and National Assembly elections got underway.

While speaking with newsmen, in Abakaliki, the state capital, Governor Umahi explained that the operation was to ensure that hoodlums do not exploit opportunities to cause trouble during the general elections.

Said he, “We also got a surprise package from Security Chiefs from Abuja all geared towards having a free and fair election. Ladies and gentlemen, let me inform you we have a flying Officer from the Nigerian Air Force, Enugu.

“I want Ebonyians to know that they would be flying low to maintain law and order so you should not entertain any fears.”

He added that the efforts were geared towards instilling confidence in the voters, as the deployment of electoral materials and personnel have been concluded in order to ensure free and fair elections, saying everything would be done to ensure hitch-free elections in the state.

However, the governor expressed concern about likely infiltration of fake election observers and challenged security operatives to rise to the occasion and fish them out.
