Muslim group tasks mothers on responsible parenting, nation building

Zainab Shittu, the founder of  Muslimah Connect,  a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has urged mothers not to succumb to societal pressures while performing their parental role.

Shittu said this on Monday at the Eid Fun Fair organised by Muslimah Connect at the Ndubisi Kanu Park, Alausa in Ikeja.

According to her, mothers should build peaceful homes and wake up to the tasks of motherhood to build a great nation.

She urged mothers to cultivate the virtues of peace, humility and love in their relationship with their children and the society.

According to her, “Woman as a homemaker and potential nation builder is supposed to live an exemplary life worthy of emulation.

“Mothers should always reflect on their lives, build peaceful homes, exhibit humility and love in their relationships with their children and the society.

“Mothers should build a healthy and peaceful home that will create a peaceful society; they should also place priorities on their homes.

“Children are nurtured by mothers and without them there will not be procreation. Mothers are helpmates to their husbands and as such, they should live exemplary lives.

“Mothers should always pray for their children and for the nation, especially in this difficult time. With prayers the country will be revived,’’ she said.

Zainab also urged the government and well-meaning Nigerians to value the contributions of mothers in family and the society at large.

She said, “If women stop nurturing, stop caring and stop making sure that their children turn out well in the society, the next generation and the economy will be affected negatively.’’

She also urged mothers to always ask questions from their children about  every stage of their  lives.

She said that parents should always get to know what would make their children happy, understand their likes and dislikes.

“As a parent, you need to guard against imposing your wishes on your children. Children need encouragement and direction.

“We need to remember that our children’s talents are comprehensive; some are academically-inclined, some are more drawn towards creativity, while others display leadership early in life,’’ she said.

She urged mothers to contribute to the nation by being faithful to God, their husbands and to their responsibilities at home, and as nation builders.

“Nation building starts from the family, and we must play our parts by doing the right things at the right time.

“In whatever we are doing, we must be truthful and serve God wholeheartedly,’’ he said.(NAN)
