Multiple taxation: FMAP holds AGM, launches product in Benin

Multiple taxation will be a focal point for discussion as the FORUM Mobile Advert Practitioners of Nigeria (FMAP) hold its Annual General Meeting today, December 4  in Benin, Edo State capital to discuss how to eradicate menace of multiple taxation in Nigeria.

FMAP is a national body of mobile advert practitioners responsible for the collection of vehicular and road taxes on behalf of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).

According to the President of the association, Otunba Mike Eboziegbe, the organisation is poised to complement efforts of the Federal government in eradicating multiple taxation in Nigeria as well as curbing activities of fake road tax collectors across the country.

As a way of achieving its objectives, the president said the association would be launching it’s  digital PVC membership identification cards at today’s AGM. The ID cards would identify genuine members of the association.

Other activities scheduled for the meeting includes official opening of FORUM digital website, distribution of FORUM MTN encrypt number to members, provision of  a simple to use technology that will support the current paper emblem and make it impossible to fake, solving the problem of not being able to validate an emblem sold in another state.

He added members would also be lectured on how  to control revenue leakages so as to be able to meet up with financial demands of the federal government, digitally tie the paper emblem sold to a vehicle plate number and make it easier to verify electronically without looking at the emblem.

As a further way of tackling multiple taxation, Otunba Mike said  field agents would also be taught how to use mobile applications to capture details of vehicle owners who had paid for their vehicular taxes.

He further said Abia State Government consultants on road taxes  will lecture FORUM members working  for state government how to generate four  times more of what’s presently generated.

The  Delta state government representative, Mr. Malachi Monye, who is the Chairman Delta State Joint Task Force on Road taxes will deliver a lecture on the ripple effects of multiple taxation.

The event is being coordinated by the FORUM national chairman, anti multiple taxation, Mr Austin Michaels, while  participants are being expected across the country. The event will be brought to an end on Sunday, December 5.
