MTN pays N235b fine for irregular SIM registration – NCC boss

MTN Nigeria Communications Limited has paid a total of N235 billion of the N330 billion fine imposed on the mobile telecommunications operator, in August 2015, by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Executive Vice Chairman at NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, says Nigerians would now be part owner of mobile telecommunications network following the public listing of the company at the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE).

NCC had in October 2015 imposed a fine of N1.04tn on MTN for irregular registration of 5.2 million subscribers.

The fine was reduced to N330 billion after negotiation between the company and the Federal government.
