Mother docked for allegedly assaulting 7-year-old son

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand in Kirikiri Prison, of 37-year-old mother, Ajoke Adebayo, arraigned for allegedly assaulting her seven-year-old son.

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, ordered the remand of the defendant pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lagos State, and declined to take the defendants’ plea.

Sule-Amzat directed the police to forward a duplicate of the case file to the DPP.

She adjourned the case until June 3.

Adebayo, who resides in Imojo Street in Bible Pattern Junction, Obawole Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos State, is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, had told the court that the defendant beat her son to a pulp and used a razor blade to cut him in several parts of his body, including chest and hands.

“The mother claimed that she caught her son (the victim) putting his finger in his younger sister’s vagina which led to her using a razor blade to grievously harm his body and beating him with a cane,” he said

Emuerhi said that the defendant committed the offence on March 30 at her residence.

He said that the case was reported at the Area ‘G’ Police Station, Ogba, by a resident in the area and later transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for further investigation.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 168 and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
