Nigerians are confused over the figures released by the NNPC as to what made up the new pump price of petrol being sold in the country.
The NNPC had released the pump price of petrol in different states of the country with Lagos to sell at the lowest price if N950 per litre while Sokoto and some other states in the North of the country will sell at between N999 per litre to N1011 per litre.
It has, and however, been observed that the figures that made up the pump price for the locally refined petrol have been adjusted by the NNPC twice within the day.
In the first statement, released earlier on Monday, the NNPC had listed various fees that made up the pump price of locally refined petrol.
They included a Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority fee of ₦8.99, an inspection fee of ₦0.97, a margin fee of ₦26.48, and a distribution fee of ₦15.
However, the second statement it issued later in the day, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority fee was reduced to ₦4.495, from N8. 99 while the inspection and margin fees were absent.
The distribution fee was increased to ₦42.45, and an additional Midstream and Gas Infrastructure Fund fee of ₦4.495 was introduced.
There was also the absence of inspection and margin fees in the second statement by the NNPC coupled with the reduction of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority fee.
Many stakeholders are wondering how the national oil company is arriving at the different fees.
More confusion also set in with the introduction of an additional fee in the second statement without any explanation from the NNPC.
The Dangote Group had last night disputed the pump price of N898 per litre which NNPC claimed it paid for the locally refined petrol from the Dangote Refinery.
Anthony Chiejina, Dangote’s Chief Communications and Branding Officer in a statement on Sunday night disputed the figures the NNPC was brandishing about saying they were false.
NNPC later released fresh figures detailing how much petrol is to sale in different parts of the country.
