Man suffers cardiac arrest after daily intake of ‘Red Bull’ energy drink

A 34-year old man, Aaron Shreve, from Colorado Springs, USA, has suffered cardiac arrest triggered by daily consumption of ‘Red Bull’ energy drink.

His condition was reported by his wife who is a mother-of-three and shopkeeper, Meagan Shreve, in a video which has gone viral, while issuing warning against consumption of energy drinks after her husband suffered a deadly cardiac arrest as a result of consuming ‘two to three cans a day’.

According to her, the drink caused her husband’s ‘heart to stop’.

Meagan said in order to revive Aaron, Doctors performed chest compressions on him resulting in broken ribs. He spent five to six weeks in the hospital with cardiologists monitoring his heart.

According to Meagan, medical tests conducted on him showed that the attack was a result of ‘dehydration and he was having too many energy drinks,’ in his body.

She said that her husband was drinking ‘two to three’ energy drinks per day, plus coffee.

‘This can be extremely, extremely dangerous. I watched this 105 pound (47 kilograms) woman drag my husband out of a chair and start chest compressions so hard that she broke his ribs,’ she said.

She added: ‘I saw everybody flood in. I was pushed against a wall not knowing what to do. So if you’re not gonna [sic] do it for yourself, do it for the people in your life so they don’t have to witness something like this.’

Narrating how her husband’s ordeal started in January 2024, she said.

‘One night, at the beginning of January, my husband woke me up in the middle of the night and said he was not feeling great ‘His heart was racing, his hands and feet were going numb and he just didn’t feel right.

‘I thought he was having a panic attack. He was like, ‘I think you need to call 9-1-1, I think I need to go to the hospital.’ ‘In less than a minute’ of seeing a hospital doctor, he collapsed. ‘All these alarms started going off, his heart stopped.’

Meagan further said one can of energy drink contains around 80mg of caffeine which is 20mg less than the average cup of coffee but her husband was consuming two to three cans which was up to 240mg, prior to his heart problems.
