A 27-year-old man, Ejike Okata was, on Sunday, arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, for allegedly killing his neighbour, Adeyiba Oladipupo, aged 50.
The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime and claimed that the victim had accused him of stealing a phone.
According to the state’s police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement, the deceased’s younger brother reported the matter at Obalende Police Station, Ijebu-Ode.

He added, however, that the suspect had escaped after committing the crime but his efforts to evade arrest failed as he was arrested when he was about travelling out of Ebonyi State.
Oyeyemi added that the suspect admitted macheting the woman and cutting off her hands because she dragged the cutlass with him.
The Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCID, is currently investigating the matter.
