Man guns down brother over electricity bill dispute

The Uruagu community in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State was thrown into mourning when a middle-aged man, identified as Mr. Peter Orji, allegedly gunned down his elder brother, following disagreement over electricity bill.

The deceased, identified as Mr. Godwin Orji, reportedly disconnected the suspect’s light for failing to pay his  ₦1500 electricity bill, resulting in a heated argument between the duo.

Enraged by his brother’s action,  the suspect allegedly rushed into his room, picked his gun shot dead his elder brother before surrendering himself to the police to avoid being lynched.

Prior to the tragic incident, the suspect was said to have repeatedly threatened his elder brother with whom he had locked horns in a land dispute.

The state’s Police spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident, adding, however, that the suspect and his wife were arrested by the police, contrary to claims that he willingly surrendered himself to the police.

Tochukwu added that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State CID, for further investigation.
