Local vigilance group in Zamfara on Sunday inflicted heavy casualties on bandits in the state, killing several of them.
The bandits, who were reportedly on a vengeance raid on Unguwar Galadima, Maru Local Government Area of the state, lost several of their members in a counter attack by the vigilante.
The bandits were said to be going to avenge the killing of their leader, Sani Black, a notorious terrorist, who was killed by vigilantes in September but ended up losing more members in their failed mission.
It was gathered that the bandits attacked Unguwar Galadima at about round 5 a.m., when the residents getting ready for dawn prayers.
The local vigilantes promptly countered the attack, killing several bandits.
However, two residents were injured during the clash but the remaining bandits fled, abandoning 10 rifles, which we’re recovered at the scene.
Troops stationed in the area also ambushed the fleeing bandits and recovered several arms, including an explosive device during the operation.
Suleiman Omale, the spokesperson for Operation Hadarin Daji, a joint military task force combating banditry in the region, was yet to issue any statement on the incident.
