List of 5G network mobile compatible phones and how to check

Following the decision of the Federal Government to switch to the 5G network for a better, internet experience, especially in terms of speed, some cellphones used in Nigeria will not be able to compatible with the 5G network mobile.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Umar Danbatta, on Thursday, disclosed that the Fifth Generation (5G) technology would be rolled out in August this year.

Danbatta made this known to reporters at the 90th edition of Telecom Consumer Parliament hosted by the Consumer Affairs Bureau of the Commission in Lagos.

He added that the commission with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy would roll out the 5G technology from 23 August.

The top companies that offer cell phone service are phasing out cellphones compatible with 3G.

This necessary phasing out will also affect phones used only for the purpose of calling 911 services and some older 4G mobile phones that do not support Voice over LTE (VoLTE or HD Voice).

This change will affect handsets like the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4, as well as many flip phones beginning from 2022.

How to check if your phone is 5G compatible

Step 1: Open network settings

Step 2: First, go to “Settings”

Step 3: Open the “Preferred network type.”

In case you’re using Redmi Note 5 Pro (Dual SIM).

Go to: “Settings” > “SIM cards & mobile networks” > select a SIM > “Preferred network type”.

If 5G is listed among them, then your phone supports 5G.

Here are some of the 5G compatible phones

For android, Vivo V20 Pro 5G, Samsung Galaxy A51 5G, google pixel 6, OnePlus 8 Pro, Motorola moto g 5G, Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G, Xiaomi Mi 10T, Realme V3 and Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra among others.

For an iPhone user only iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 models are 5G compatible.
