An undergraduate student of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) have committed suicide by gulping a bottle of sniper, after his girlfriend of nine years reportedly left him.

The deceased, with the Facebook name ‘ KingEzekiel Joseph Mayowa’, reportedly took his own life in the early hours of Friday.

He was said to be a part-time student of Hospitality and Management Technology in the institution.

It was learnt that Mayowa had, on Thursday night, recorded a live video on Facebook, where he cried over being abandoned by his girlfriend, while holding a bottle of sniper.

According to the video, Mayowa explained he ‘lost his girlfriend’ when she went for NYSC and met a ‘rich guy’.

He said since his girlfriend got into the NYSC camp, she changed and stopped calling him.

In the video, Mayowa advised the Federal Government to scrap the NYSC scheme and also admonished men to make money before dating any woman.

The deceased also alleged that the lady in question took advantage of a mistake he made three years ago to break up with him.

Mayowa apologised to his mother and a few friends before going offline. His body was, however, recovered on Friday morning, after friends, who had seen the video, rushed to his house.

A friend of the deceased, who lamented his death on Facebook, Lateefah Oluwatoyin Sanni, had this to say of the late Mayowa: “ Mayowa, why? why? why? Why did you have to do this to us? Why did you have to take the life you never created yourself? Just because of a girlfriend of nine years broke up with you.

“How I wish I knew last Sunday was the last day I would see you, I would have said a lot of things to you. Mayowa Why? Why did you have to break thousands of people’s heart today? A lot of beautiful girls will step on your grave and walk away, why?

“ You were a brilliant student, with very good grades. Nice guy with a good job, what else did you want from God, rest in peace Mayor,I will miss you till we meet to part no more.”

When contacted, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said, “The incident was not reported at any police division.”
