The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Mobile Police officer for firing shots in the air during the reopening of Ladipo Market in Lagos.
The suspect, identified as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, has been condemned for his unprofessional conduct and now awaits necessary disciplinary actions against him by the Command.
Benjamin Hundeyin, SP, the spokesperson of the Lagos Police Command, disclosed this on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

He said: “The police officer in this video, Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, serving with the Mobile Police (MOPOL), has been brought in for appropriate disciplinary actions.
“@LagosPoliceNG condemns in its entirety all forms of unprofessional and unethical behaviour on the part of its officers and men; and will definitely bring to book anyone found culpable.”
Earlier Olumuyiwa Adejobi, ACP, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), had revealed that the man filmed firing shots to celebrate the reopening of the Ladipo Market in Lagos, had been identified.

The cop was seen in a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, firing shots into the air while being chered by.
Adejobi had stated that a probe had been instituted and the man would be identified.
However, the Police spokesman in a later update revealed that the man had been identified, adfi g that the Lagos State Police Command would address the matter.
“The man has been identified. The Lagos State Police Command will speak on it asap. Let’s wait for their reaction on the matter. I really commend the efforts of the CP on it. Excellent indeed. Thanks,” Adejobi had written.
