The Lagos Police Command has denied online reports suggesting that a policeman had shot dead a commercial motorcyclist at Ago-Palace Way, Okota, in Lagos State.

Earlier reports had it that detachment of policemen on Stop and Search had accosted the motorcyclist and demanded 100 from him.

The report went further that when the motorcyclist refused to pay the said sum and attempted to zoom off, one of the policemen had shot him, killing him on the spot.

However, denying the allegation, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, DSP  Elkana Bala said, “ The video of a motorcyclist,  chased to his death by a police officer is false and a complete misrepresentation of the facts.”

Giving a detailed account of what transpired at the said location, Bala said it was an accident.

“They found a motorcyclist laying down in the pool of his own blood with his motorcycle on the ground.

“The victim was taken to the hospital but eventually died. On inquiries from eye witnesses around the scene, it was gathered that the motorcyclist was involved in a fatal accident with a vehicle along Ago -Palace way.

“An eyewitness, identified as Mr. Adedayo Benson, who was standing in front of Century Hotel, said he saw the motorcyclist, who was riding on a high speed.

“Benson said the motorcyclist ran into a road bump and suddenly applied his break but was hit by a Camry car who was driving  behind,” the PPRO stated.

On whether any arrest had been made, Bala said the driver of the Camry car sped off from the scene before the arrival of the law enforcement agents.

He further stated that Investigation into the accident is ongoing to track and apprehend the driver of the Camry vehicle with a view to bringing him to justice.
