The Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday, said it arrested at least five hoodlums usually called the ‘Awawa Boys’ in their hideouts in parts of the state.
The criminals were said to have been picked up at Mulero, Orile Agege, Abule Egba and Agege, all suburbs of the state.
The new commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abiodun Alabi, was said to have ordered immediate raids on all black spots to get those who constitute insecurity to the neighbourhood.
Officials of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) early Thursday morning arrested the five suspected Awawa Boys who also had in their possessions, substances believed to be Indian Hemp and others.

Apart from the five, the police also confirmed that three suspected members were handed over to the Divisional Police Units in the affected areas.
“Using the intelligence gathered as a result of civil disturbances unleashed in Mulero and part of Iyana Ipaja on Tuesday night, the Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, working on the directives of new Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, deployed a convoy patrol to all the affected communities before the night raid on the suspected hideouts of the miscreants,” the police said
It that the suspects would be charged to court as directed by the commissioner of Police.
Activities of the hoodlums are said to have made life unbearable for the neighbourhoods as many cases of robbery, burglary, rape are on the increase.
The new police boss, on the assumption of office, said that criminals in the state must relocate in their interests.
