Lagos police arraigns 22 traffic offenders, deploys 200 motorcycles to tackle traffic

As part of efforts to ease the traffic situation in Lagos, the state police has arrested and arraigned 20 traffic offenders in mobile court and confiscated vehicles driving against traffic 

The prosecution of the traffic offenders arrested last Friday was a joint action by the Lagos State Police Command in collaboration with Lagos State Judiciary, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.

It was learnt that the traffic offenders, were mostly arrested for driving against traffic and seven vehicles were confiscated. The Offenders were immediately arraigned before Mobile Court.

Speaking on the prosecution of the offenders, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Elkana Bala said the command is set to curb traffic in the state, as 200 motorcycles have been deployed for traffic control. 

“The enforcement of traffic laws will be sustained all through the festive periods and beyond. The Enforcement team is guided by the mantra ‘Traffic must flow’. It could be recalled that the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, upon assumption of office declared a state of emergency in traffic and deployed additional one thousand Police Officers for traffic control. 

“The CP with the support of Lagos State Government, deployed two hundred Motorcycles for traffic control and patrols to ensure free flow of traffic and also combat traffic related crimes such as traffic robbery, ” he said.
