Members of the Lagos state House of Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa days after the suspension and demotion of four of their colleagues.
The 34 lawmakers, who were at the sitting, said their confidence in the speaker stems from his unending passion to unite the Assembly and the members in spite of few opposition elements.
The votes were taken by the lawmakers raising their hands to support the motion moved by by Hon. Rotimi Olowo, the member representing Somolu Constituency 1 and seconded by Hon. Desmond Elliot representing Surulere Constituency 1.

Speaking during plenary, the lawmakers said there was need for the public to understand that they are in support of the actions of the speaker.
The House recently suspended four lawmakers including the former Chief Whip, Hon. Rotimi Abiru (Shomolu 2), former Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Olumuyiwa Jimoh (Apapa 2), Hon. Moshood Oshun (Lagos Mainland 2) and Hon. Raheem Kazeem Adewale (Ibeju-Lekki 2).
Part of the vote of confidence, according to the lawmakers, was to prove that the impeached deputy chief whip lied when he called the Speaker a dictator in a recent interview he granted a national daily.
The lawmakers said as far as they are concerned, the House was peaceful and that the Speaker is not known to take unilateral decisions.
In moving the motion, Olowo argued that the Speaker deserves commendation for the way he had led the House and brought more respect to the state Assembly.
He described Speaker Obasa as a democratic, responsible and reliable leader.
“A vote of confidence should be passed on him,” Olowo urged.
His call was supported by majority of the lawmakers with the raising up of their hands.

Hon. Rotimi Olowo
