The Lagos State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists in the state to desist from assaulting traffic officers in the line of duty or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
The Sector Commander, Mr Hyginus Omeje, gave the warning in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos by the sector’s Public Education Officer, Mrs Olabisi Sonusi.
Omeje spoke against the backdrop of some recent attacks on some corps personnel, while discharging their constitutional mandates.
He cited the case of one Bernard Ogechi, a traffic offender, who was recently remanded in prison custody for allegedly hitting and running his vehicle over the leg of an FRSC Marshal.

According to the statement, the marshal was controlling traffic on November 30, 2019 at Abule Osun axis of Lagos-Badagry Expressway, when the incident occured.
The commander therefore underscored the need for motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations during the festive period and beyond.
He warned that any motorists arrested for allegedly assaulting any corps personnel in the discharge of their would be prosecuted.
